Culture and heritage

Mandated by the MRC Pontiac, the CLD's Culture and Heritage Department is responsible for promoting the Pontiac culture and heritage locally and to visitors to the region. To that end, the CLD has developed a cultural policy which serves as a guideline for all cultural development projects. From this policy was the first Cultural Calendar, distributed to all households to inform residents on the various cultural activities in the Pontiac. The Pontiac Church Tour was also created to promote our rich religious heritage. Finally, increased support to the Pontiac Artists' Association resulted, among others, in the purchase of the old St-Jacques school in Portage-du-Fort, providing the region a permanent establishment for the arts.

Financing

Two cultural agents actually work within the CLD. The municipalities, organizations and individuals can contact them for technical support with their cultural projects:

  • Support or coordination for Built Heritage projects
  • Support or coordination for culturally led projects
  • Support or coordination of territorial development projects – cultural component and cultural tourism
  • Assistance to municipalities for the preservation of the Build Heritage inventory  (establishing a Town Planning Committee and implementing a Cultural Property Act)
  • Assistance to municipalities and owners for the renovation and restoration of historical buildings
  • Support for municipalities for the development of their urban core
  • Financial research and technical support for project assembly
  • Communicate with diverse ministries (federal and provincial)
  • Transmit local and supra-local cultural information
  • Communicate the needs and activities in the Pontiac, on behalf of the regional bodies

In addition to these support services, the agents equally manage the Cultural Initiatives Support Program as well as projects of the regional Cultural Development Agreement.
